Obituary for Jack H Mowen

Jack H. Mowen died peacefully at the age of 87 with his family by his side on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the Stratford Court Nursing Home in Palm Harbor, FL. Jack is formally of Wall Township, Brielle, Point Pleasant. Manasquan and Pompton Plains, NJ. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and valued friend. Jack was born on July 30, 1929. He graduated from Nutley High School, Nutley, NJ, and attended Tempe College, AZ. Jack served in the United States Army serving in the Korean War - Honorably Discharged on January 18, 1957. His career in perfumery began at Givaudan and then Firmenich, Inc., which took him and his family to Geneva, Switzerland for 1 ½ years. Thereafter, his career continued at Naarden International; Takasago, Fritzsche Dodge & Olcott, Inc.; Fragrance Resources and after retirement consulted at Atlantis Aromatics, Farmingdale, NJ. His career boasts a Lifetime Achievement Award which he received February 8, 2010. “Jack is one of the foremost creative perfumers in the world” - 56th Annual Fragrance Symposium February 8, 2010.

Jack is predeceased by his loving wife Virginia and parents Florence and Charles LeRoy Mowen. He is survived by his children: Jill Grammer, (husband Brian) DE; Jacque Allen, (husband Todd) FL; Cindy McChesney, (husband Wayne) NJ; Kim Hayek, (husband Alex) NJ; son, Jeffrey Mowen, (wife Betsy Egerter) NJ; and sister Jane Mann, (husband Dave) FL. He is also survived by 5 nieces, 3 nephews, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends who loved him deeply.

He treasured his family, loved fishing, golfing, the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, old John Wayne films, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His strength and wisdom were an inspiration to all who knew him.

A memorial viewing and service is planned at the Orender Family Home, 2643 Old Bridge Rd., Manasquan, NJ, on Saturday, September 24, 2016. The viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed immediately by the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.; www.orenderfamilyhome.com.
