Laura’s 4 year courageous battle with ALS came to a peaceful end on Friday when she passed in the comfort of her own bed surrounded by loved ones, her father holding her hand. Laura joined her mother that day in heaven where she will be in God’s loving care for eternity. Laura had a passion for life and a smile that could light up a room and loved her 2 boys with all her heart. She was a great mother, daughter, sister, and friend to so many. All throughout her battle with this dreadful disease and especially as her days grew more and more difficult friends and family from far and wide would come by to spend quality time comforting, laughing, watching movies, praying and sometimes even sleeping next to her to help her through the night. While her existence was unimaginable being unable to communicate, she always managed a beautiful smile to let everyone know she appreciated their company. Amazing people rose to amazing heights during a very tough stretch, especially her youngest, Brendan, who responded amazingly to the great demands that fell on him and he shouldered responsibilities like Hercules while finishing up high school! Her older son, Garrett, has been away at college making his mom proud by studying hard and keeping his grades up… he’s soon to be a Physical Therapist! Almost till the day she had to give up driving Laura gave of herself as a driver for Meals on Wheels, caring for the same group of elderly for years. Her vibrant personality and enthusiasm made for the perfect match for her career in sales both in telecom and later recycling services. Laura loved to clean and always had a spotless artfully and thoughtfully decorated home with many picture collages to celebrate her friends and family. Laura gave generously to The Ocean Conservancy, was a volunteer for Catholic Charities, and was passionate about ‘all things in nature’, especially animals as demonstrated by the assortment of pets she entertained throughout the years. Her early years were spent in Brooklyn, then North Jersey where she attended River Dell Jr. and Sr. High then Lincroft NJ where she raised her 2 sons. In each of these places Laura accumulated life-long friendships.
Laura is survived by her father, Salvatore Libecci, and her brother Gregory Libecci, and her two sons, Garrett Edward Rumsby and Brendan Gregory Rumsby. Laura’s loving and beautiful mom, Barbara Gore Libecci, passed away just this past April, leaving a hole in the family’s heart. There are many cousins, aunts, uncles and countless friends who Laura loved dearly. God blessed our family with a caregiver to look after Laura during her last 8 months. Sonia Willie-Mosby took exceptional loving care of Laura and made sure she was comfortable right up till the end.
