Thomas P. Lynch, 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2017 at UConn Health John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington, CT. He was born April 25, 1933 in Newark, NJ. He attended Seton Hall University and Rutgers University. After marrying Sara Flarity, they moved to Hopkinton, MA where he served as a Parks and Recreation officer, Cub Scout Troop Leader, Little League coach and member of Knights of Columbus. Thomas was a U.S. Navy veteran and had a 36-year career with Prudential Insurance Company as a facilities manager. He served as a mentor to inner-city children in Boston. He had been a resident of Sea Girt, NJ since 1991. In retirement, he was an associate member of the Sea Girt Fire Department and established a program with local grocery store food supplies to the Mercy Center in Asbury Park, a network in which he also personally transported the food. At St. Mark's Church, he served as usher, member of Social Concerns, Eucharistic minister, and Vice President of the Holy Name Society. He also served as a research subject testing medications through the Jim and Pat Calhoun Cardiology Center at UConn Health.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sara Lynch, and children Michael and Nancy Lynch of New York, Patrick and Denise Lynch of New York, Thomas and Cheryl Lynch of Texas, MaryBeth and Scott Allen of Connecticut, and Stephen and Ann Lynch of New York. He was the brother of Margaret Mayer (Lynch) of Florida and the late Molly Dalton (Lynch) of New Jersey. Thomas also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation to be held at Orender Family Homes for Funeral, 2643 Old Bridge Rd, Manasquan, NJ on Monday April 17 from 4-9 PM. Mass will be held on Tuesday April 18, 2017 at 9:30 AM at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Sea Girt, NJ. Interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Thomas P. Lynch Memorial Fund in support of the Intermediate Unit at UConn Health John Dempsey Hospital in recognition of the outstanding care he received by the doctors and nurses of his UConn Health team.
