Frances V. (Carlson) Hansen, age 97, passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2017. Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1919, Fran was one of four daughters born to parents Frank and Emelia (Berglund) Carlson. Fran grew up in Brooklyn, NY while her most cherished childhood memories were her summers spent at her grandparents home near the Narragansett River in Rhode Island. Fran was a beautician in her younger years. She married her sweetheart Edward Hansen in 1947, raising their family in Hicksville, LI, NY, and Brigantine, NJ until settling in Wall Township, NJ in 1966. Fran was a homemaker, loved animals, gardening and was beautiful inside and out. She was extremely proud of her Swedish heritage and kept it alive in our family with her holiday smorgasbords. Fran enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, embroidery, and in her later years, crocheting. Our family will be forever blessed with so many afghans to keep us warm and forever close to her. Fran’s greatest joy was her family. Her eyes would sparkle with pride for her granddaughters and her little great-granddaughters, who visited daily just to see their “Gi-Gi.” Fran will be so missed by our family, she loved us so much and we will love her forever.
Fran was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward (2004); her three sisters, Esther Andersen, Ruth Ann Meliere, and Florence Hermansson. Surviving is her daughter, Joyce and her husband Jeffrey Foster (with whom she lived); son, Richard Hansen and his wife Patricia; Grandchildren, Jaime Blasich (Walter), Jennifer Sczerbowicz (Joseph), Eric Hansen (Lindsey), Brian Hansen (Mindy), Kate Marlowe (Ryan); Great-grandchildren Nora Blasich, Julia Sczerbowicz, Capri and Quin Hansen. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their families. Fran also leaves behind her beloved 11 year old Cockapoo, Daisy-Mae, who was her constant companion and always by her side.
Orender Family Home for Funerals in Wall Township, NJ were in charge of arrangements. Services were private. Fran will rest next to her husband Edward Hansen (WWII Navy Air Force Veteran) at The Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. Since Fran loved animals throughout her life, we ask anyone who would like to contribute to a charity in Fran’s honor, to please donate to Rescue Ridge, P.O. Box 223, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Our family wishes to thank both VNA and Meridian at Home hospice groups for their help and support.
