Obituary for Joseph A. Duddy Jr.

Joseph A. Duddy Jr.
Joseph Aloysius Duddy Jr. died peacefully on Wednesday, February 21st, 2018 at his home in Manasquan, NJ. Surrounded by his family, Joseph, age 81, died after courageously battling various ailments including cancer for 18 months. Joseph was born in Brooklyn on January 10th, 1937 and married Lucia Mulle on June 13th, 1959. After brief stops in several cities, they settled in Middletown, NJ where they raised their four children, Joseph, Sean, Brian and Arianne.
Joseph grew up in Brooklyn and spent most summers with his parents and four siblings in the quaint town of Lake Mohawk, NJ where they enjoyed their time on, in and around the beautiful lake. He was a standout track star at Brooklyn Prep and a top competitor in Three-Gaited Equitation, placing 3rd in the 1951 National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden. He studied civil engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, class of 1958, and was a member of Theta Kappa Phi fraternity.
A real estate developer, he partnered with Rachlin Properties for the better part of 40 years and developed many properties across the Midatlantic and beyond. He started his career with JC Penney, building stores as far away as Puerto Rico and, as part of the Revlon Cosmetics Company, oversaw the construction of their Global Headquarters in Edison, NJ.
His intellectual curiosity was insatiable and he loved speaking to people about their interests and passions. During his nearly fifty-year membership at Navesink Country Club, he was an avid golfer and a fierce competitor on the platform tennis courts. He also loved Vermont and spent almost every holiday with family and friends in his historic home in Manchester Village, Vermont. He was known around town and loved by all.
Most of all he was a family man. He loved his children and wife and gave everything he had to make his family happy and healthy. In his later years, his passion was his ten grandchildren. He adored them and showed tremendous love and friendship. He also was a proud grandfather who loved discussing his grandchildren and their achievements and you could see the joy in his eyes as he smiled and spoke about their successes.

Surviving are, his wife, Lucia of 59 years, his four children Joseph, Sean, Brian and Arianne, his brother Terence, his sister Charlotte Duddy Barry, his ten grandchildren, Nicole, Cameron, Brian, Olivia, Abigail, John, Carter, Madison, Jackson, Caitlin and sixteen nieces and nephews. His father Joseph, his mother Elizabeth Morgan, and his two sisters, Patricia Duddy Armstrong and Elizabeth Duddy predecease him.

Joseph was a wonderful man who loved life and enjoyed the company of all the people and family that made up his world. He will be missed greatly by all those who got to know his warm and engaging spirit. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday March 2, 2018 from 5-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals. Manasquan, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am on Saturday March 3, 2018 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Avon-by-the Sea.
